Chaired by Jolande Sap, this roundtable will explore how supervisory board members are increasingly confronted with stakeholders who pursue similar goals but operate from entirely different perspectives and backgrounds. How do you engage in dialogue with an activist movement in a way that fosters mutual understanding and leads to concrete steps?
In this session, we will discuss:
-
How can supervisory boards engage with stakeholders who approach issues from a very different perspective?
-
How do you translate opposing viewpoints into joint action without losing sight of your organization’s interests?
Donald Pols (Director, Milieudefensie) has been invited to share his experiences from the frontlines of societal engagement. As the leader of an organization that works through both the courts and public campaigns, he understands the power of confrontation – but also the value of dialogue. He is joining this roundtable because he has deliberately chosen to open a dialogue with supervisory board members about mutual understanding and constructive solutions that benefit both companies and civil society organizations.
As always, this session is designed for and by supervisory board members – this time together with our chair, Jolande Sap!
We will conclude with practical insights and tips for board members, as well as a reflection from a next-generation board member from our partner Blikverruimers.
